History
The school is being run under the aegis of Vishesh Educational Society. The Society was registered under the Societies Registration Act under No: 1521 of 1988 dated, 8th April 1988. The Society was allotted land by the Chandigarh Administration on 22nd June 1989. The school was later built at the present location by the society which was run under the name of Dutt Vishesh School from 1993 till September 2007. In 2008, the name of the school was changed to FIRSTSTEPS which started its operation from 13th April 2008.

FirstSteps School is located in the prestigious educational Sector 26, Chandigarh. The school offers education from preschool to Grade X to a cross-cultural mix of students. The medium of instruction is English and the school offers International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), Cambridge Lower Secondary and Cambridge Upper Secondary Programmes. The school also offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (Cambridge IGCSE) at the end of Grade X. FirstSteps School offers Centre for regular and private candidature of Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level Assessments.
FirstSteps School- is intrinsically a space that has been well thought of both in its philosophy and methodology to engage, energize, enlighten and empower the students as lifelong learners and leaders of tomorrow. Research has shown that interactive learning plays a crucial role in the development of intellect, self-esteem and self-confidence of the students. Keeping these findings in mind, FirstSteps has developed its curriculum, designed its facilities and resources, and trained the facilitators. The school's mission is to nurture young minds in partnership with the parent community to recognize that education is a social endeavour benefiting all its members individually and collectively.

FirstSteps school strives to create an environment of active involvement, innate desire to reason and discover, think and apply to real life situations. The curriculum activities, system and the entire ethos of the institution is designed to make a child discover his/her own self as well as to develop respect for others and the society as whole.
Innovation is the key to knowledge, growth and success. We have developed interesting and intelligent, in house training module for our facilitators. Regular upgradation of methodologies and system is undertaken by involving expert on the subject and field.
We encourage the parents to participate in their child’s learning process, the parent/teacher/school triangle is an integral part of the healthy development of each child. As a constantly growing school we combine the best education practices of the East and the West to transform our students into “Citizens of the World”.

At Firststeps, we address our teachers as the facilitators, who play a crucial role in providing the appropriate environment and stimuli to empower every child to tap into their innate ability. Each team member strongly believes they are lifelong learners and must continuously evolve by imbibing the new educational practices by availing every opportunity for growth through professional development sessions and workshops. Our facilitators believe that specific skills, including flexibility, patience, empathy and kindness, will always support them to bond with their students, allowing them to have their voice, choice and ownership of their learning.
